When I saw one of my best friends walk with his new girl, I can't help but wonder, does time really changes everything? For us modern human beings, the concept of time equates to yesterday, today and tomorrow. And coupled with a plethora of momentary circumstances that are embedded on to the previously mentioned components, you can never doubt that through time, everything changes.

The core of human evolution. Change. And for the most part, all these changes are adaptive, not the other way around. No matter how hard the change is, it will always be adaptive. We just have to foresee what is on the other side. You just have to be emotionally viable to the status quo. Let it be. And with that, you have already fought. Come rain or shine, be your best self, because that is your armor. Listen to your gut, follow what you think is right. Because you will always be the protagonist of your own life story, so make the most out of it! There's a reason why most of us know the line, "happily ever after." We just know that there is one. With or without believing in eternal happiness.

At first I thought that it was kind of redundant to communicate about change for the hundredth time. But I've come to realize that I will never get tired of this concept. It is because change is all-pervasive, and it is of utmost importance in the process of survival.

Take for example how I compose blogs. Back then I sound so corny. Now, I know that I have already improved my form of writing. It may not be someone else's preference or some may unruly criticize my style. But the thing is, I like how I write and this is a result of change. What and how I write are a contiguity of my previous self. I became adaptive.

My friend never expected a breakup after four years of being in a relationship. But because change is unequivocal, it happened. It may not be evident to her now, but soon, I know that she'll see this as a form of an adaptive process. A unique way of preparing her for bigger changes in the future.

It is how we move away from a state of hell. It is how we move towards beauty, strength and grit. It is like an old wine from Tuscany, it may be bitter tasting at first, but once you get involved with its exquisiteness, you may want for more.

Just make sure you don't get drunk along the way. Too much of a change at once probably is counterproductive.

Here's my fair share to the online community about what happened and what will happen to my life last year and this year respectively.

1. I kept a journal. Whatever I feel, I write. No inhibitions. Plain honesty. I came to know myself better because I was able to track down what's real and what's not real in my life. I became aware of my own reality. And that helped me to know myself.

2. I have a poor vocabulary. And that keeps me from fully loving the pen and paper style. One day, someone asked me what's the definition of contiguous. I was left at point blank. I ended up making an ice cream out of flour.

3. Read more. Be more.

4. I really love mexican food. I love the smell of garlic on my hands. I also love the smell of melting butter on a hot pan. I'll try to learn cooking omelets w/o adding commercial flavorings.

5. I choose to be agnostic. Maybe because I still pray whenever I feel that I need a boost. I don't have any religion. I'm not an atheist. I'm not into scientology. I'm eclectic. I try to live by whatever I think is for my own good without compromising other's interests. I appreciate and try to apply the ways both Christ and Buddha lived, and also Johnny Knoxville's.

6. I use twitter. I don't have a facebook account anymore. Maybe soon. It's really helpful to reconnect with old friends and relatives. But, I will never use it again just to pry on other's lives or to portray something that I am not.

7. It feels liberating to not have a facebook account.

8. I will not allow myself to swim in the ocean of consumerism again.

9. I love beer. But I'm done with hard alcoholic drinks. I'm done with blackout drinking.

10. I'll be learning how to budget my expenses this year.

11. I cry a lot. But I cry over weird things.

12. Sing more. Write more. Flirt more.

13. Just a thought: What would make your life's purpose? As I age, I have trouble grasping this one's concept.

14. My mom is a tough one. Well, emotionally and my dad still cares about how I go to my review center. I wish we'd have more of those big family reunion things held twice or thrice a year.

15. I have great friends. They all bring something different.

16. I want to be an an actor. Al Pacino and Meryl Streep inspires me.

17. Anne curtis is overrated. Lovi poe, heart evangelista and marian rivera are underrated

18. Some people try to "overrate" themselves. Some try hard to "underrate" themselves. Sucks to be them.

19. Looking good is a survival tactic.

20. I like it when I am able to meditate inside the sauna room.

A sudden attack of the unknown can cause an obliterative change in perception. You've been there once. Probably twice, or more than you can remember. Some people pass through it without breaking a sweat, while some, carry it and treat it as extra baggages that are cumbersome, and may lead to a factitious emotional turmoil within one's self. That I call is known to many as anxiety. Evidenced clinically by physiological signs such as an increase in heart rate and sweating among others. It's not uncommon. Most probably, it is omnipresent. Like what I've mentioned, some can move pass it easily. Thus never almost given much attention. But not me, I need productive forms of escapism, like what I'm doing right now, writing. When I am anxious, I write, or I run or I wear my earphones and listen to what the piano keys utter. That's why for the past month or so, Adele was of big help. I get lost by her song's integrity. With songs like Someone Like You, Take It All and Set Fire to the Rain, I get relieved. Not that I am in any way attached to the beautifully written lyrics, but I'm after more of the melody that it brings. Then there's a sudden decrease in my heart rate.

I have to blame the 2 packs of instant coffee I drank for the past 4 hours. It gave me the "it" feeling I've been avoiding to for the past few months. Stimulants help me, but then when it gives it's counter-effect to those people who are predisposed with anxiety attacks, "we" become helpless.

I wonder how Van Gogh made it through. Aside from having himself indulge with art, what did he do to be the best despite of his undervalued condition.

I wish I was the "organized," goal-oriented type, because I am trying so hard to be like one now. And I won't put an effort on being such if I had not felt the healthy benefits of it. I find it difficult because I am a spontaneous person, I enjoy the pleasure of having to satisfy my impulses, always!

From my point of view, maturity begins after one has achieved self-awareness. You can never be, if you have an indefinite account of what makes you, you. From a set of strengths and weaknesses comes an insight that will be your guiding force to keep you going. And for the most part, there is no right or wrong path. Our society may redundantly say that this, is better than that, but in reality, that will never be true. You can only be influenced by them, but your totality, should be the only one judging what is good or bad for yourself. And if you are mature enough, you have already developed that drive that is being influenced by experiences and instincts. Mediocrity, which is endemic to most Filipinos, should be taken over by maturity. I do look up to achievers. You never fail to inspire me.

On being emotional

My grandparents will always, and forever have a special place in my heart. It's true, that when my parents were not present, they were the ones there for me. My lolo died two years ago and it was heartbreaking for me. I remember that I cried continuously for an hour or two after he was pronounced dead. When our family had the chance to participate in a quasi group therapy, lead by a pastor, I was able to verbalize that he was the one who gave me a father image when my real father was abroad. It was a short statement but I felt that I have said so much, because it qualitatively summed up my feelings for him. Earlier today, I was with my lola, and the reality of her dying hit me. And I can't help but feel an ensemble of melancholia and oblivion. While rummaging through the inexplicable patterns of my brain, I found myself already shedding some tears. Yet again, another heartbreak foreseen.

I get frantic when I see mosquitoes. They suck my blood and leaves my skin itchy. Parasites! I despise them. Two nights ago I woke up because this mini vampire, pulled an all-nighter on me. I immediately thought of sentencing it to death penalty, but my eyes were too weary to coordinate with my hands, so I wasn't able to use my first line of defense. I decided sleep again and leave the mosquito alone. Five... ten, fifteen minutes, this mosquito was still hungry for more blood! I thought that he sucked enough blood, but I was dead wrong. Like most of our selfish ways, this "thing" was eager for more! At the back of my very sleepy head, I was thinking of coercive measures. If this "thing" was human, I'll let him know, either through subtle ways or by being brutally honest, that I don't tolerate persons with parasitic tendencies around me. But the thing is about this "thing," it will never in a billion years, no matter what kind of evolutionary process happen, be able to understand that I just need a good night sleep. Then, there it was, at the top of my book shelf, two insect repellants which at that time had an imaginary halo around it served as my Mjolnir, one intends to kill bed bugs, and the other makes a mosquito and a human's skin two opposite poles. Without further ado, I as a frustrated and a desperate protagonist, who is at the verge of an epic story's climax, sprayed death sentence into the air. I think I won. No signs of mosquitoes. I fell asleep.

If Walt Disney directs my life, two nights ago will be happily ever after. However, Wes Craven is in control, and I am experiencing the sequel right now!

I have been running for almost three years, and I really like it. Notice that I used the word like, I want to use the word "love," but after realizing that I am still friends with Philip Morris, I am still not in love with the sport. Maybe infatuated, or obsessed, but love? Not yet! Anyway, with that time frame in mind, can you imagine that I haven't yet joined a single marathon? And that I don't have a running buddy/mate or whatever you call it. I enjoy running alone. It's my "day-off" or when I say to my friends that I need my alone time, perhaps I am referring to myself running with or without my ipod on the streets of Manila. But recently, I have been longing for a running mate. I have a lot of friends, but my friends are too lazy to get their assess off from their bed at five in the morning during Saturdays or Sundays. And I am also lazy enough to insist!

When I was in third year college, I had a very bad lifestyle. So I bulked up on fat, and eventually wore a beer belly. After noticing a lot of physical and emotional changes, I decided to gear up again and head towards an active lifestyle. Yes, I was an active person before all hell broke loose. I wasn't the "athletic" type, but I tried a little bit of everything. So, I started running because it is the most accessible and practical sport for me to engage in at that time. I run almost everyday and since then I had some ups and downs with my body. Like any other runner, I had my shortcomings in the sport. I had stupid running breaks, wherein I withdrew from it because I got to make a lot of excuses.

Let me share you this, my short term goal is to run a 21k race with few breaks, or better, without stopping. And my long term goal is to participate in the annual ironman triathlon.

Running has a big influence in my overall well-being. Well, in fact, any form of aerobic exercise positively influence physical and mental health. I know that anytime soon, I'll forget that my Friday and Saturday nights are all about getting awfully drunk. I know that anytime soon, I'll get to achieve my ideal lifestyle that may spare me another 5 years.

When my tear ducts get strongly aroused while watching movies, it is probably because of one thing, and that is when my emotional circuitry apprehends a strong sense of passion. It is when people fight to get what they want, and they fight for it really hard that my emotions are moved in another degree.

I also cry when pets, or animals are involved. And also, when there is a happy rather than a sad ending. I don't care whether it's a chick flick, cartoons or an action film, given that there are the elements mentioned above, coupled with a moving background music, much worse when I hear a piano and/or a violin playing, and believable actors and actresses, I may cry over a movie on any given Sunday.

This appeared on my twitter feed and after "reading" through it, I wonder, what is it like out there in space? Is there life? If there is, is it comparable to the life found here in earth? If there is, how will it change us? Should we feel threatened? And by all means, I am not talking about anything related to x-files but rather, on the notion of faith.

Genesis 1:3, and God said "Let there be light!" If this actually happened "in the beginning," I guess it will happen again when it's proven that there is life outside our solar system. However I presume, that this light will ignite a blur.

All I can think of was lighting up another stick as I painfully watch Carrie dump her nicotine friends in the toilet. I wonder, is love, whether in it's non intimate context or not, enough, for me to be able to liberate myself from this nonetheless conditioned habit?

Wisdom and for the Deficits in Attention

I can get easily distracted. I always encounter a difficult time concentrating on a task. Like for example, right now I have Beyonce's Love on Top on the background. Even if it's Beethoven or John Sebastian Bach playing, I would not be able to concentrate at what I'm trying to talk about here. With that and probably several other reasons, I am not capable of multi-tasking. Since I have a background in child and adult psychiatry, I have long been in a debate with myself if I have an attention deficit disorder. Well, I don't have it. I think I have an affaire de coeur with something else. If you have followed this blog, you have probably felt two opposing agencies. I even describe it as having "constant internal battles." I don't want to go into detail because it has not yet been determined by someone who can actually give a diagnosis, i.e. a psychiatrist. I just want to point out that I have always admired those people who can do it all at the same time. I regard them as the professional jugglers. They aren't luckier than me, they just sort of have an initial advantage. Regardless of having to abandon normalcy, I gained, and is still gaining wisdom.

Coffee, I'm now about to finish my fourth cup, all that within a six hour period, probably less. It's instant coffee by the way. The cheap ones packed in sachets. But still, it's a so-so cafe au lait. I don't press or "prepare" my own coffee, it takes time. And I obsess so much with finding what suits my taste buds, so the time component again is there. Instead of being able to immediately feel the effects of caffeine in my veins, I will be spending time perfecting my drink. And for the most part, I don't have a press pot. I never liked it bitter. I actually like it sweet. Not too much milk, not too much sugar, not too much coffee. Rather than hot or iced, I prefer it to be warm. Well, I always thought that warm is a conclusive description of something that is in between hot or cold. Not for about three seconds ago did I realize that it isn't. Like the word beauty, it's vague and is subjective, therefore argumentative. I know that its temperature is perfect when I don't drink my coffee too fast or forget about it because it's too hot. That's my definition of warm. Somewhere between instant and delayed gratification.

I am not interested in coffee. I repeat, I am not interested in coffee.

Should you ask why did I waste time talking like a caffeine-induced insomniac. Well, the only answer I could think of right now is that, that paved the way for my creative subconscious to be brought in my consciousness.
